Research assistant – health and welfare in pig herds

Department of Animal Science offers a one-year position as a research assistant available from 1 October 2019 or soon thereafter.

Are you interested in the health and welfare of organic and conventional pig herds? We offer a challenging job in a dynamic research environment, working interdisciplinary with epidemiology and management and focusing on teamwork. The unit consists of a mixed group of researchers, including veterinarians, agronomists, biologists and anthropologists. 
The position, which offers the opportunity for professional development in quantitative as well as qualitative methods, includes research within health management and welfare assessment in pig herds.

Tasks

  • Planning and execution of studies in private pig herds
  • Collection of clinical data from livestock
  • Analysing the correlations between health and welfare parameters and production data in pig herds
  • Contribution to publishing and other relevant dissemination

Qualifications
For the position, we emphasize the importance of:

  • A relevant Master’s degree from the university with interest in epidemiology
  • Experience as a practising veterinarian or counsellor
  • Ability and interest for teamwork and interdisciplinary cooperation
  • Ability and interest for research with the goal of obtaining a PhD or postdoc position within the department

Application procedure
Short-listing is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. All applicants will be notified within 6 weeks whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.

Formalities and salary range
Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
