The ongoing COVID19-pandemic has put extreme focus on vaccine development in order to conquer and control the present pandemic as to prevent future outbreaks and avoid uncontrolled spread of infectious diseases. The importance of effective and safe vaccines has never reached similar attention in the public. The obvious question is what makes a good and safe vaccine?

Professor Graham Belsham from Dep. Veterinary and Animal Sciences, University of Copenhagen will give a talk on how you target vaccine research for developing new vaccines. He has extensive expertise in the biggest and most serious animal infectious diseases viruses, Foot-and-mouth Disease, African and Classical Swine Fever and the new player on the scene SARS-Cov2-infections in mink. All very contagious viruses that require hard measures for the control and prevention.

Our second speaker is Merete Blixenkrone-Møller, she is Senior Assessor at Danish Health and Medicines Authority and member of Committee for Medicinal Products for Veterinary Use (CVMP), European Medicines Agency. She will speak on the requirements and procedures a vaccine candidate needs to meet upon approval from the authorities. She is also a veterinary virologist and immunologist, who has extensive expertise with the authorization of new biological products, including vaccines.
