You will be part of the Section for Medicine, Oncology and Veterinary Clinical Pathology, working within the field of emergency and critical care (ECC) (daytime only).
The position is focused on clinical teaching as part of the clinical service of companion animal ECC but will also involve lectures in ECC as well as pre- and postgraduate course development and administration. The teaching assistant professor is not expected to drive own original research, but to support and assist in ongoing research at the department.

Companion animal emergency and critical care is part of the Section for Internal Medicine, Oncology and Veterinary Clinical Pathology and collaborates closely with the University Hospital for Companion Animals and sections for Surgery, Cardiology and Neurology and Section for Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging.
Companion Animal emergency and critical care is a core discipline in the clinical veterinary curriculum as part of the veterinary education in Denmark. Companion Animal emergency and critical care runs a high throughput clinical service, for which seeing companion animal patients forms the basis for clinical teaching of veterinary students.
The Section for Internal Medicine, Oncology, and Veterinary Clinical Pathology's (https://ikv.ku.dk/forskning/medicin-onkologi-klinisk-patologi/) joint research area is the inter-dependency between inflammation and hemostasis as part of the innate immune defense and development of assays for predictive biomarkers in companion animal and comparative medicine. The section holds clinical teaching and service obligations within companion animal general medicine, internal medicine, emergency and critical care, oncology, clinical nutrition and veterinary clinical pathology and collaborates across fields nationally and internationally.
The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences covers strong and internationally recognized research areas in clinical veterinary sciences. Based on these, we want to set a new standard for cross-disciplinary research, education and innovation within animal health and disease. Our research supports teaching in a manner and quality, securing continued national and international benchmarking. Job description
The teaching assistant professor will be a part, in daytime, of the Emergency and Critical Care team responsible for the 24/7/365 emergency service and the intensive care unit of The University Hospital for Companion Animals to which veterinary students are on call as part of their course in ECC and companion animal track. The teaching assistant professor will be in charge of teaching based on ECC patient receiving, work up, management and client education of ambulatory and intensive care primary and referral patients. The teaching assistant professor is expected to develop teaching materials, to be involved in pre-and postgraduate ECC teaching and course development. Further teaching responsibilities include bachelor, masters and post graduate masters project supervision. Furthermore, the teaching assistant professor will participate in training of the rotating clinical interns who service the hospital emergency service. The University Hospital for Companion Animals 24/7 service receives primary, secondary, and tertiary care patients from own practice and surrounding collaborating companion animal practices.
In considering applications for the teaching assistant professorship, the main emphasis will be on the applicant´s ability to document a high level of clinical experience in the field of companion animal emergency and critical care. Teaching experience is preferred, but not a requirement. The teaching assistant professor will be required to complete the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen assistant professor pedagogical degree (“Adjunktpædagogikum”) within the first year of employment.
Required qualifications
- A DVM degree with license to practice in Denmark
- Fluency in Danish, Swedish or Norwegian as well as in English
- Solid clinical experience in companion animal emergency and critical care medicine from specialized companion animal practice
- Candidates with documented clinical teaching experience will be preferred
- Documented post-graduate training preferred e.g. post graduate master’s degree in companion animal clinical science, and/or post graduate education at the level of VetCEE/fagdyrlæge/steg 1/ Norwegian specialist.
The teaching assistant professor is also required to be enterprising and to possess good communicative and interpersonal skills.

Terms of employment
The position is full-time (daytime only) and is limited to a period of 4 years. Starting date is 1 February 2023 or as soon as possible thererafter. Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.
