About us

Companion animal emergency and critical care is part of the Section for Internal Medicine, Oncology and Veterinary Clinical Pathology and collaborates closely with the University Hospital for Companion Animals and sections for Surgery, Cardiology and Neurology and Section for Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging.

Companion Animal emergency and critical care is a core discipline in the clinical veterinary curriculum as part of the veterinary education in Denmark. Companion Animal emergency and critical care runs a high throughput clinical service, for which seeing companion animal patients forms the basis for clinical teaching of veterinary students.

The Section for Internal Medicine, Oncology, and Veterinary Clinical Pathology's (https://ikv.ku.dk/forskning/medicin-onkologi-klinisk-patologi/) joint research area is the inter-dependency between inflammation and hemostasis as part of the innate immune defense and development of assays for predictive biomarkers in companion animal and comparative medicine.  The section holds clinical teaching and service obligations within companion animal general medicine, internal medicine, emergency and critical care, oncology, clinical nutrition and veterinary clinical pathology and collaborates across fields nationally and internationally.

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences covers strong and internationally recognized research areas in clinical veterinary sciences. Based on these, we want to set a new standard for cross-disciplinary research, education and innovation within animal health and disease. Our research supports teaching in a manner and quality, securing continued national and international benchmarking.
